Abstract
Urbanization cause to increase runoff volume or peak flow and also decrease groundwater recharge. Consequently, in arid or semi-arid regions low impact development (LID) planning and best management practices (BMPs), as an integrated water resources management scheme, are utilized to control runoff and recharge aquifers. This study focuses on investigating groundwater recharge potential from stormwater runoff in Isfahan; the third-largest city of Iran, where the only surface water resource has become seasonal. The runoff volume was calculated by SCS-CN method over metropolitan area (410 km2) in dry, average and wet conditions. According to flooding level, three of the best management practices (BMPs) were considered to be performed in zones. Then, runoff impact on the groundwater recharge was estimated based on Isfahan Groundwater Model (IGM). The potential recharge volumes through BMPs are equal to 2.4, 11.1 and 37.5 MCM in eleven months for dry, average and wet years, respectively.
